The Allentown Band performed a Memorial Remembrance concert May 24 at Springhouse Middle School.
The free concert, hosted by the South Whitehall Parks and Recreation Department, was held 7-8:30 p.m. at the school, 1200 Springhouse Road, Allentown.
Founded in 1828, the Allentown Band is recognized as America’s oldest civilian concert band.
Conductor Ronald Demkee surprised audience members by requesting the band perform the theme from the film “Midway,” composed by John Williams.
The program also featured music from “Saving Private Ryan” and “The Patriot.”
The Allentown Band is known for preserving and advancing the heritage of concert band music through community performances and educational outreach.
