Trumbauer earns 400th win
The Parkland High School boys volleyball program has been a special part of Scott Trumbauer’s life for the better part of 32 years.
He joined the team as a student-athlete back in 1994, and has spent the last 25 years as the team’s head coach.
Last week, he and his program celebrated a milestone for the man in charge.
Last Tuesday, April 21, Parkland defeated Pocono Mountain West in straight sets, by scores of 25-20, 25-12 and 25-14. With the victory, Trumbauer recorded career win number 400 as the head coach.
“It’s a great feeling because it takes a long time to happen and gives me time to reflect on all the groups that contributed to it,” said Trumbauer. “It reflects the time and hard work of many great kids over the years. It means a lot to me because this program has been part of my life since 1994, when I played for Parkland. I take a lot of pride in representing Parkland and boys volleyball in the Lehigh Valley and the state.”
The Trojans followed that up two nights later with a five-set victory over Nazareth on the road last Thursday, by scores of 25-16, 25-22, 16-25, 20-25, 17-15.
In the win over the Panthers, Jude Ruisch finished with 13 kills, three digs and one block. Zeke Gordner recorded 10 kills, two blocks and one ace. Zamin Soonasra tallied nine kills, five digs, one block and one ace. Gabe Chase contributed 34 assists and eight digs and Owen Barnett notched seven digs and one ace.
In the victory against the Blue Eagles, Ruisch led the attack with 14 kills, one block and three digs. Soonasra finished with 10 kills, two blocks and 12 digs. Bear Jacobs added 10 kills, three blocks and three digs. Gordner netted nine kills, one block, one ace and four digs. Chase amassed 47 assists, five blocks and six digs. Barnett led the defense with 15 digs.
Seeing the successes of his student-athletes is one of the main reasons Trumbauer continues to coach so long.
“The experiences with the players are a major reason I coach,” Trumbauer said. “Watching them compete in a sport that has given me so much is hard to describe. Watching many of the guys play in middle school, work their way through JV, and eventually reach varsity is a full-circle moment, as it takes a lot of dedication and effort to be as successful as they are.”
Parkland, which improved to 11-2 overall and 9-1 in the conference, finishes up the regular season this week with two matches. The Trojans hosted Northampton this past Monday and were at Emmaus on Wednesday. The EPC Tournament begins next Thursday night with a quarterfinal TBD.
Trumbauer looks to continue winning at Parkland and just representing the school that has meant so much for him.
“Coaching at Parkland has been fantastic,” said Trumbauer. “The administration and community support are second to none. We also have a great group of coaches who support each other, which makes it a great place to work. The experiences are unlike anything else in youth and high school sports.”
