STSD directors vote to approve the proposed final budget
The Salisbury Township School District Board of Directors held a regular school board meeting May 13 where they voted to approve the proposed final budget which is now open for public review.
After the payment of bills, approval of board minutes and the April treasurer’s report the board went on to approve a LearnWell Agreement to provide educational service for a student, agreements with PA HELPS, Behavioral Health Associates and Seton Hall University Project Acceleration High School Program as well as a five year Kutztown University dual enrollment agreement.
The board also approved Muhlenberg College student teacher Isabelle Hoffman who will work with Matthew Tobias in the fall.
Director Thomas Spinner brought several items to the board for approval namely, the appointment of Ian Riccaboni to continue serving as school board treasurer, a fuel bid, a five-year telephone service contract with Service Electric, the renewal of the food service SFE and Frontline Education and a Memorandum of Understanding between the Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners, the Salisbury Township Police Department and the Salisbury Township School District. All motions passed.
Additionally, the board approved an agreement to employ ALLOY5 as the engineer of record for district-wide capital improvement services.
Finance committee chairperson, Director Ian Riccaboni introduced the 2026-2027 proposed final budget which is currently available for public review.
The proposed budget reflects a total of $50,666,922.39 in expenditures and is expected to be voted on at the next board meeting.
Looking ahead to future budgets Directors Thomas Spinner and Laura McKelvey asked for explicit line-by-line information to be made available well in advance so that board members can use the information to factor into the decision making process.
Director Joseph Gnall pledged to do his best to look into tools that will help board members get the answers they need and welcomed the opportunity to sit down and problem solve with anyone who has questions.
Board members went on to approve the proposed final budget.
During the personnel committee portion of the meeting the board approved the revised resignation date for Patria Porto, the resignation of custodian Tanya Hilbert as well as the employment of Jennifer Kowalski and Lauren Weller as homebound tutors not to exceed five hours per week.
Also approved for employment as head girls volleyball coach is Kendall Rodas.
Teachers and instructional assistants approved for STEAM Summer Program include Diane Kasaczun, Cindy Long, Jennifer Kowalski, Kiersten Miller, Angela Hagenbuch and Heather Cumello, Conni Keller, Karen Vitalos, Hannah Boyle and Amber Goodwin.
Joseph Lynn was approved as a substitute for the program.
Preston Kucsan was approved as a substitute for the extended school year program.
The board also approved the assignment transfer of custodian Zeven Adamick and the appointment of short-term substitute Susan Knight for the remainder of the school year.
Chris Tripp, CSN, was approved to provide CPR training programs through the American Heart Association beginning June 1.
Substitute payment services rates for the 2026-2027 school year also received approval.
Director Rebecca Glenister of the policy committee made a motion to approve final adoption of policies pertaining to school visitors, eligibility of nonresident students, building security, school vehicle drivers, public attendance at school events and Title I parent and family engagement. The motions passed.
In his student activities report director Gnall made a motion to establish PIAA Cooperative sponsorship in wrestling with Allentown Central Catholic for the 2026-2027 school year. The motion passed.
During the board reports portion of the meeting the board approved agreements with the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21 for Transperfect Remote Interpreters for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, an agreement to participate in the Crisis Response Pool Services Consultation through July 30 2027, the Lehigh Carbon Community College dual enrollment agreement Aug. 1, 2026 through July 31, 2027 and the Lehigh Career and Technical Institute operating budget in the amount of $35,489,513. Salisbury’s portion of the budget is $1,254,145.
Superintendent Lynn Fuini-Hetten reported on the success of the May 5 community night which featured multiple activities including an art show, a dinner and a budget review. She praised the hard work of art teachers Jay Linsenbigler, So Choi and Catherine Amorim for gathering and displaying the artistic talents of students K-12.
During the art show community members were encouraged to add to a mural which will be included in the Salisbury Township 250th Anniversary time capsule which will be opened in 2076.
She congratulated student Paityn Pavalko who qualified to participate in the HOSA International Leadership Conference this summer. Pavalko placed third in Emergency Health Services, Clinical Specialty.
Also of note is the announcement of the SHS Class of 2026 Valedictorian Soledad Lausch and Salutatorian Phoebe Balleck.
Upcoming board meetings include operations and finance committee meeting 7 p.m. June 10 and a regular board meeting 7 p.m. June 17. All meetings will take place in the administration building, 1140 Salisbury Road, Allentown.
