Local fire crews train at Lehigh Valley Hospital May 18

Fire crews setup aerial ladder trucks at several locations around the Lehigh Valley Hospital campus May 18 to gain access to different roof elevations as part of training exercises.

Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company has responsibility for fire protection and rescue operations at the hospital but can get assistance from neighboring companies as needed. On training night held May 18, crews from Lower Macungie and South Whitehall fire departments joined Western Salisbury to setup several coordinated aerial scenarios.

The departments use two different aerial devices.

Cetronia and Lower Macungie departments both have aerial devices with a basket on the end of the aerial ladder. These trucks are referred to as a “tower.”

Western Salisbury has a straight stick aerial without a basket. The department’s aerial is referred to as a “quint.”
