Emmaus High School student injured when struck by a vehicle

An Emmaus High School student was injured when struck by a vehicle involved in a crash near the school May 21.

In a communication addressed to “Emmaus High School families” made available to The Press, the incident was described as follows:

“A vehicle accident took place near the school, and following the collision, a student who was walking by was struck by one of the vehicles involved.”

The crash was described as happening after school.

A press release from the Emmaus Police Department detailed officers responding to the collision at the intersection of South Cedar Crest Boulevard and North Street at approximately 2:37 p.m.

“Upon officers’ arrival, it was determined that a collision allegedly occurred in the middle of the intersection, causing one of the involved vehicles to veer off the roadway, onto the sidewalk, and strike an Emmaus High School student who was walking in the area,” the release continued.

The EHS student sustained serious juries; however, the injuries were described by authorities as nonlife threatening.

“The drivers of both vehicles sustained minor injuries,” according to Emmaus police.

Two people were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital.

The student was taken to a hospital for treatment and family was notified, according to the communication sent to EHS families.

According to the press release from police, the accident remains under investigation as of May 22.

First responders included Pennsylvania State Police and Salisbury Township Police Department officers; crews from Emmaus Ambulance Corps and Macungie Ambulance Corps, the Emmaus Fire Department and the Vera Cruz Fire Department.

On Oct. 31, 2023, an Emmaus High School student was fatally injured in a two-vehicle accident in the area of the same intersection.

On a regular school day, Emmaus High School dismissal is scheduled 2:25 p.m. at the end of the last class of the day.
