American Legion honors fallen veterans

Catasauqua American Legion Post 215 celebrated Memorial Day with a traveling ceremony May 25. The procession honored fallen service members with ceremonies spanning local war memorials and cemeteries across both Catasauqua and North Catasauqua.

The American Legion Honor Guard traveled from the Post at 330 Second St. to the Fairview Cemetery in West Catasauqua, escorted by riders of the Legion’s motorcade and the Southside Motor Club motorcade.

After Fairview Cemetery, the Post 215 members moved to the Pine Street Bridge for the memorial service to remember those who served in the Navy. U.S. Navy veteran Joe Todaro dropped a bouquet of flowers into the water.

Joe “Juggar” Yenik, a U.S. Army veteran, presented a wreath to memorialize those who perished from North Catasauqua at the veterans memorial at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St.

The honor guard then traveled to continue services at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Catasauqua. John O’Connell, U.S. Army veteran, presented the wreath to those interred at St. Mary’s.

After the motorcade, the program concluded with a service for all the fallen comrades in arms back at the Post. Sheri Bealer, U.S. Army veteran, presented the wreath at that location.

After the memorial services, a luncheon was provided.
