Allentown man pleads guilty in Fountain hill pharmacy burglary and shooting in late 2024

An Allentown man pleaded guilty to charges of burglary and shooting a gun at a pharmacy in Fountain Hill in late 2024, according to a press release from the Office of the Lehigh County District Attorney and dated May 18.

“Miguel Angel Martinez, 57, of Allentown, pleaded guilty [May 18] to felony charges of conspiracy to commit burglary, burglary and a misdemeanor charge of possessing instruments of crime,” according to authorities.

“He faces a possible maximum sentence of 22 ½ to 45 years in state prison,” the release continues.

David Montes Vazquez, 34, of Bethlehem, faces similar charges in the same case. Charges against Vazquez include felony counts of conspiracy to commit burglary, conspiracy to possession of a firearm prohibited, burglary and receiving stolen property.

Vazquez also faces the following misdemeanor charges: conspiracy to recklessly endangering another person, conspiracy to make repairs/sell an offensive weapon, conspiracy to possession of a weapon and conspiracy to theft by unlawful taking.

Authorities outlined the case as follows in the press release:

“Shortly after 9 p.m. on Dec. 25, 2024, Fountain Hill Police were called to a sounding burglar alarm at the Fountain Hill Pharmacy at 1049 Broadway.”

Police saw two men in the store.

The men were later identified as Martinez and Vazquez.

According to authorities, Vazquez allegedly pointed a gun at a Fountain Hill borough police officer “who opened fire, but did not hit” Vazquez or Martinez.

Officials ordered residents near the pharmacy to stay inside their homes during a standoff involving law enforcement and Vazquez and Martinez.

“Both defendants eventually surrendered to police,” according to the press release.

“Both men broke into the building, spray painted surveillance cameras while inside and stole medication” according to authorities.
