Parkland School District provides bus transportation as well as special transports for private schools and special needs students. In addition to regular buses, there are mini buses and vans used for special transports.
Bus drivers are required to have a CDL license along with other certifications. Van drivers do not need any special license but need to be aware of common traffic situations. They also need to be aware of riders with special needs.
A van driver that transports to Fogelsville Elementary School has a passenger who was given an assignment to write about the most important member of their community. Choices were given such as police officer, doctor, teacher or bus driver.
Bella Barrie, a passenger on driver Ron Moore’s van and a student at Fogelsville Elementary School, chose her van driver as her most important member of the community. She wrote a paper expressing her reasons suggesting “the driver should be responsible and happy.” She said, “Mr. Ron makes her happy and safe and that’s why she thinks he’s the most important person in her community.”
