Schools closed May 25 for Memorial Day
Students in Salisbury Township School District are entering the last quarter of the school year when state testing, field days, class trips and other end-of-year celebrations dominate schedules.
Salisbury High School students will be on a two-and-a-half-hour delay May 13-14 except for students taking the Biology Keystone tests. Students taking the Literature Keystones May 18-19 will report to school at their regularly scheduled time while all other students will be on a two-and-a-half-hour hour delay.
Salisbury Elementary School will have a T-shirt day May 21 and May 22 will be a day off for students due to a professional development day for teachers.
School will be closed May 25 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. All students will report to school May 26.
In community news, the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival will return to the lawn at the Emmaus Public Library for one performance of “As You Like It” 1-3 p.m. June 5. Bring chairs or blankets for seating and enjoy the show.
The Levitt Pavilion, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem will host a free family movie series every Wednesday May 13 to Aug. 19. Screenings begin 6:30 p.m. The lineup for May and June include “Cars,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Dogman,” “Inside Out 2” and “The Aristocats.”

If you’ve longed for a way to connect with nature and get your creative juices flowing, the Wildland’s Conservancy has the hike for you! In conjunction with JuxtaHub Arts & Innovation Center you can take a moderate 1-mile Trailside Nature Sketching hike at the Black River Sanctuary 10 a.m. to noon May 27. Summer is a critical time for blood donations and this June community members will have two opportunities to make a lifesaving difference.
On June 2 the annual Miller Memorial Blood Drive in memory of Wayne Leibensperger Jr. will be held 3-7 p.m. at Jerusalem Lutheran Church of Eastern Salisbury. To register, call Deana Leibensperger 610-217-3155.

The township yard waste drop off sites are now open. The Devonshire site will be open May 14 and 16 and the Franko site will be open May 18, 21 and 23.
Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
