Second annual Flags for Unity event Memorial Day Weekend at Parkland High School

The Rotary Club of Allentown West, in partnership with Parkland School District, is proud to announce the second annual Flags for Unity event, a heartfelt tribute honoring military members, veterans, first responders and other cherished loved ones.
This commemorative display will feature hundreds of 8-foot American flags transforming the Parkland High School practice football field into a moving testament to heroes.
The event will take place May 21-25, encompassing Memorial Day Weekend, on the grounds in front of Parkland High School, 2700 N. Cedar Crest Blvd., Allentown, at the school’s campus entrance.
The opening ceremony includes special guests, including a Keynote Address by (Retired) Lt. Col. Nate Sassaman, a West Point All-American QB, Army Airborne Ranger, decorated combat veteran, best-selling author and seasoned leader.
The agenda for the Flags for Unity opening ceremony 5:30-6:30 p.m. May 21 at the Parkland Practice Field includes:
Welcome: Herb Klotz, Flags for Unity chair. Allentown West Rotary Club.
Pledge of Allegiance: John Trieber, Fullerton American Legion Post 367.
National Anthem: Parkland High School Band, Jason Lerew, conductor.
Invocation: Warren Miller, Miller Financial Group.
Legislator Remarks: State Rep. Mike Schlossberg, D-132nd, Congressman Ryan McKenzie, 7th District.
Military Anthem Medley: Parkland High School Band.
Partners, Special Guests, Thanks and Introductions: Herb Klotz.
Keynote Speaker Introduction: Herb Klotz.
Keynote Address: Retired Lt. Col. Nate Sassaman, USA
Orefield Middle School Chorale, Erich Joella, conductor

Program ends: Guests/sponsors visit their flags.
A 30-minute closing ceremony will be held 6 p.m. Memorial Day including a guest speaker’s address before the flags are removed.
Community members are invited to purchase flags individually or in groups to honor their loved ones.

All proceeds from the Flags for Unity event will support local veterans’ programs and the Allentown West Rotary Club’s initiatives to combat food insecurity.
