EHS names student of the week

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My mother’s name is Kristina, my father’s name is Iain and my sister’s name is Mildred.

Q. As a senior, do you have any specific goals you will pursue this academic year?

A. A specific goal I have for the rest of my school year is to finish all of my final exams and AP exams with at least an 85 or 4.

Q. What is your favorite class at Emmaus High School? Why?

A. My favorite class at Emmaus High School is definitely AP Biology. AP Bio had one of the best teachers I have ever had. Mrs. Svencer is a saint who helped me not just with AP Bio, but with other aspects of my life. The class also helped me realize what I wanted to do in life. It unlocked my love for labs and biological sciences.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. Yes, I have. I received the Service Above Self award when I was a junior.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?

A. Yes, I am a part of a few extracurricular activities. I throw the discus for the school’s track and field team. I am also part of clubs like the Hydroponics Club. Track and field showed me what it was like to be a part of a true team working for a common goal. In my freshman year, I started the Hydroponics Club and I have happily stayed with it for the rest of my time at school. It taught me not only science but self-advocacy. I was interested in Mr. Labar’s hydroponic wall in his class when I had him for Biology Honors. I learned to ask him about it and eventually gathered up the courage to ask to start the club.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. I think my biggest challenge as of now is most likely burnout. I pushed so hard for three years and as I have reached being a senior with college in sight, it has become increasingly hard not to want to rest.

Q. At this time, what are your plans for the future beyond high school?

A. I most likely will commit to Drexel University for biomedical engineering.

Q. If you could spend an evening conversing with a historically significant person, whom would you choose? Why?

A. I think I would spend an evening with JFK. I would ask him about how he managed to unite a country in one of its most tense periods.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered for being a good person who used his love and compassion to help others who need it.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. I think the piece of advice I would give is to be bold. No matter how cliché it is, saying yes to opportunities or agreeing to try new things can and will unlock my previously locked doors. I know it has for me, and it most likely will for you.
