Trojans win battle at Coca-Cola Park
The Emmaus baseball team dropped three straight games last week and will look to turn things around over the last two weeks of the season to earn a postseason berth.
The skid started when Emmaus lost to Parkland 8-1 last Tuesday, April 14, at Coca-Cola Park.
The Trojans took a 2-0 lead in the first inning before Emmaus answered in the top of the second when Chase Simmons and Ryan Hummel singled before Simmons scored on a fielder’s choice.
The Trojans got a run in the bottom of the inning for a 3-1 lead before a five-run fifth extended their lead.
The Hornets’ threatened in the third inning with Cole Moreau hit a leadoff double and Josh Diaz reached base to put runners at the corners.
Parkland pitcher Sawyer Marstellar struck out the next three batters to end the inning. Marstellar pitched five innings and struck out six Hornets while walking none.
Hummel had two hits in the game for Emmaus, which manged just five hits off two Parkland pitchers.
Moreau was tagged with the loss, allowing four hits and three runs (two earned) over four innings while striking out five and walking six batters. Just three of Parkland’s runs in the game were earned as the Hornets committed three errors.
Emmaus lost to Bethlehem Catholic 3-2 last Thursday.
The Hornets took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first before the Golden Hawks tied the score in the third and scored a run in the bottom of the seventh for the win.
Emmaus pitchers scattered nine Becahi hits, but the Hornets managed just two hits in the loss. Chase Simmons had both hits and an RBI in the game.
Jaden Betz allowed eight hits and three runs while striking out four batters and walking two over six innings.
The Hornets dropped a nonleague game to Hazleton, 7-0 Saturday.
Emmaus had four hits against the Cougars from Diaz, Simmons, Tanner Karwacki and Zach Ehritz.
