Rowlands wins 200-meter dash at Ship’s Roddick Invitational
The Parkland track and field teams beat Dieruff last week before entering some invitationals over the weekend.
At the Shippensburg 99th Roddick HS Invitational, multiple Trojans placed in the top seven of their respective events.
The boys side was led by Radnor Rowlands, the winner in the 200-meter dash in a time of 21.70 seconds. The Trojan junior also had a solid showing in the 100-meter dash with a third-place finish in 10.72 seconds.
While Rowlands was the only Parkland athlete to finish with two top-seven marks, plenty of others produced successful outings on the boys side, too. Nmelichukwu Onwuzo placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles in 39.85 seconds, while Wesley West came in fourth in the 200-meter dash, three spots behind Rowlands. Logan McEvoy (400-meter dash, 50.50 seconds) and Marcelo Castilla (800-meter run, 2:01.71) each placed seventh in the invitational. The boys’ 400-meter relay team took third place to round out the Trojans’ top finishers.
On the girls side, Ana Gbur and Samantha Schultz were the Trojans’ top finishers. Gbur finished seventh in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 46.87 seconds, while Schultz jumped 10 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault, also good for a seventh-place finish.
Parkland also competed in the Southern Lehigh Invitational on Saturday, which was highlighted by multiple top-four finishes.
Parkland’s successful day on the boys side was highlighted by impressive showings in the running events. Donato Ciampittiello was the top finisher on the day, placing second in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 17.40 seconds. Alexander Abosamra placed third in the 3200-meter run in 10:31.01, while Jaden Quintana took fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:04.43.
Jason Brader was the top finisher in the jumping events, placing third in the long jump with a mark of 21 feet, 3 1/4 inches.
The girls side had multiple top-four finishers in both the jumping and running events. Leading the jumps was Savannah Gonzalez, the winner in the triple jump event with a mark of 34 feet, 10 3/4 inches. Genevieve Inserra came in second in the pole vault by jumping 9-0 feet, and Sarah Huff rounded out the finishers with a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 3 3/4 inches.
Rebecca Vazquies finished with the highest mark in the running events, placing third in the 3200-meter run in 12:52.12. Lilah Wynder placed fourth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:03.48.
Both Parkland teams improved to 5-0 at a dual meet against Dieruff last week.
Dhaniya Miner (100, 200), Sarah Huff (long jump, triple jump) and Vanessa Ball (discus, javelin) won two events each in the girls meet against the Huskies.
Luke McEvoy (400, 1600) and David Scherb (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles) won two events each for the Parkland boys team.
