PHS girls lax beats NWL, falls to PV
The Parkland High School girls lacrosse team split a pair of games last week.
The Trojans opened the week with a 10-8 win against Northwestern Lehigh last Tuesday night, April 14, but then were downed by Pleasant Valley 9-8 last Thursday evening.
In the victory over the Tigers, Parkland jumped out in front early, scoring three first quarter goals and not allowing one and held a 5-2 lead at halftime. Northwestern outscored the Trojans 3-2 in the third quarter to pull to within just two goals, and then the two teams each scored three goals in the fourth quarter as Parkland held on for the victory.
Sydney Sensinger led the attack with four goals. Both Jade Caravello and Olivia Esteban tallied two goals with Esteban adding an assist. Each of Samantha Schippell and Addie Winfield finished with one goal and one assist and Lila Temchatin contributed an assist. Audrina Stewart totaled four saves in net to earn the victory.
Against the defending league champ Bears, PV outscored Parkland 2-1 in the first quarter and then 3-2 in the second to lead 5-3 at halftime. The Trojans pulled to within a goal as they outscored Pleasant Valley 3-2 in the third, but were unable to get over the top as both teams found the back of the net twice in the final frame.
Laura Volpe and Winfield both scored twice with Volpe also adding an assist. Sensinger, Temchatin, Schippell and Esteban all added a goal with Sensinger dishing out an assist. Stewart made five saves in goal.
Parkland moved 11-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
