Parkland softball tops PV

The Parkland High School softball team had a tough stretch last week with three losses. The Trojans turned things around with a one-run win Tuesday.

Last Wednesday, the Trojans lost to East Stroudsburg South 13-3 in six innings. Two days later, they fell to Emmaus 5-3 and then were defeated by Tunkhannock 9-6 on Saturday. But Parkland opened this week with a 7-6 victory over Pleasant Valley Tuesday afternoon.

The Cavaliers scored six runs in the third inning and added three more in the fourth to take a large lead early. Parkland got on the scoreboard and scored all three runs in the top of the fifth, while ESS’s two-run fifth and sixth innings put the game in the mercy rule. The Trojans finished with three hits, all by three different players, including Libby Pinkham, Cheyanne Brawn and Sarah Linko, with Pinkham adding two RBIs. ESS had 16 hits and each team committed three errors defensively.

In the game against the Hornets, Parkland took a 3-0 lead after scoring all three of its runs in the bottom of the third inning. Emmaus tied the score with a three-run top of the fifth and then scored twice in the sixth to hold on for the win. The Trojans recorded six hits, with both Holly Chase and Shayla Jenkins getting two hits and combining for three RBIs. Addison Fritzinger and Allie Flynt each had a hit.

In the game with Tunkhannock, the Trojans went ahead 2-1 after a two-run top of the second inning, but the hosts added three more in the bottom-half and then scored one in the third, three in the fourth and then one in the sixth, while Parkland brought in one in the sixth and three in the seventh, but couldn’t complete the comeback.

The Trojans had 12 hits, led by four from Gabriella Morrison, who also had four hits and two RBIs. Chase tallied three hits and two RBIs and scored three runs, and Jenkins finished with two hits. Fritzinger, Brawn and Gianna Hudock each added a hit.

In the victory over the Bears, Parkland went down 1-0 before it even came to the plate, but scored three runs in both the bottom of the first and second innings to go ahead 6-1.

After three scoreless innings, PV scored three times in the sixth and tied the score with a two-run seventh. The Trojans were able to walk off with the win with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Parkland had seven hits, with Pinkham leading the lineup with two and then Ami Patel, Fritzinger, Jenkins, Morrison and Flynt all contributed one, with Patel, Jenkins and Morrison recording two RBIs each. Fritzinger threw a complete game and struck out four to earn the victory.

Parkland moved to 3-7 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
