LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

NWL softball bounces back from first loss

Last Friday, the Northwestern Lehigh softball team scored two runs in the first against Hamburg and was shutout for six innings in a 10-2 loss.

Over the weekend the weather turned warmer and the Lady Tigers were able to take out some frustrations against Saucon Valley as they put up two runs in the first inning and went on to take an 18-4 win over the Panthers.

The game against Saucon Valley became interesting when Saucon Valley put up four runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut its deficit to three runs at 7-4. Northwestern put up 11 runs in the top of the seventh for an 18-4 win.

Georgia Tech recruit Abby Dunstan had a big week for the Tigers. Against Saucon Valley, Dunstan was a single shy of hitting for the cycle as she drove in five runs and scored three times. For the week, Dunstan hit .600 (6-10) with two home runs, seven RBI, five runs scored, three doubles, and a triple.

Three seniors were swinging well with Molly Schlofer hitting .600 (6-10) with four RBI and two runs scored, Ella Bressi hit .461 (6-13) with a pair of triples, five runs scored and four runs driven in. Senior pitcher Emma Freeman went 5-11 at the plate to hit .455 with two doubles, four runs scored and an RBI. Sophomore Natalie Conner also hit .455 (5-11) with a pair of doubles, five runs scored and five runs driven in.

In the circle, Freeman posted a 3.13 ERA with five walks and 12 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings.

Northwestern is 3-1 on the season and 3-0 in Colonial League games. Coming up the Tigers will finish a wild game that they started nearly two weeks ago against Nazareth. The game is 14-13 in favor of the Blue Eagles with the Tigers batting in the bottom of the fifth. The end of that game was wiped out by heavy rain.
