Hornets remain unbeaten in EPC

The Emmaus High School softball team remained unbeaten in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference competition to start the 2026 season.

The Hornets defeated Central Catholic 12-2 in five innings last Tuesday, March 24, and followed that a day later with a 17-0 victory in three innings against Allen. Emmaus lost to Abington Heights 7-4 in 11 innings this past Saturday.

In the win over the Vikettes, Emmaus scored two runs in the first, four in the second and six more in the third, outhitting CCHS 7-4. The seven hits came from seven different batters, as Caylie Granitz, Haleigh Gigliotti, Julia DeFanti, Autumn Tarbox, Sydney Bennett, Mari Eiswerth and Abigail Derr all had a hit, with Eiswerth’s a three-run home run.

Both Gigliotti and Derr recorded two RBI. Eiswerth also picked up the win in the circle, throwing all five innings, allowing just four hits while striking out six.

In the victory against the Canaries, the game just took 2.5 innings as the Hornets scored three runs in the third and 14 in the second. The lineup ended with 15 hits, led by three from Calise Eiswerth, who also added two RBI and allowed zero hits in three innings for the win. Each of Derr, Julia Murphy-Peterson, Haleigh Gigliotti and Marissa

Gigliotti finished with two hits. DeFanti, Tarbox, Granitz and Brianna Gitski contributed a hit.

Against the Comets, Emmaus took leads of 1-0 after one and 3-2 after four, but Abington tied the score with a run in the top of the fifth and then added four in the 11th inning.

The Hornets totaled 11 hits, with Bennett leading the way with three. Haleigh Gigliotti, Tarbox, Gitski and Derr all had two hits and Mari Eiswerth had one. Eiswerth threw the final nine innings and recorded 15 strikeouts.

Emmaus improved to 3-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
