EHS tops PME to cap first half of season
The Emmaus baseball team hit the halfway point in the season with Monday’s game against Pocono Mountain East.
Emmaus heads into the second half of its 2026 campaign at 6-4 overall and 6-2 in East Penn Conference games after a 5-4 win over the Cardinals.
The Cardinals scored three runs in the first inning Monday at Church Lane, and another in the second to take an early 4-2 lead. Emmaus got two in the bottom of the first inning and then one run each in the third, sixth and seventh to earn the win.
The Hornets got the tying run when Robert Barnes reached base on an error in the sixth inning. Courtesy runner Cole George scored on a John Kelly sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the seventh, Zach Ehrtiz singled with one out and scored on a Cole Moreau walk-off sacrifice fly.
Five different Hornets had one hit in a five-hit effort against PME. Barnes was 0-for-1 with a team-high two RBI in the win.
Barnes also pitched five scoreless innings while allowing six hits and striking out three batters while walking none. Jaden Betz allowed four hits and four runs (two earned) over two innings.
Emmaus dropped its second extra-inning game of the season when it lost 5-4 to Stroudsburg in nine innings last Wednesday.
Barnes (2-for-5, RBI), Chase Simmons (2-for-5) and Drayce Schmidt (2-for-4, RBI) all had multiple hits against the Mountaineers.
Betz took the loss against Stroudsburg after pitching three innings and allowing two runs on three hits.
Moreau threw 5.2 innings in the game and gave up eight hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out seven batters and walking one.
The Hornets beat Dieruff 16-1 in five innings last Monday, April 6.
Josh Diaz led a 13-hit effort from Emmaus, going 4-for-4 with a double and a triple in the win over the Huskies. Diaz knocked in three run and scored twice.
Tanner Karwacki (2-for-3, RBI, 2 runs) and Kelly (2-for-2, 2 RBI, run) also had multiple hits in the game.
Barnes allowed five hits over 5.1 innings to earn the win. He struck out 10 batters and walked none.
The second half of the season began Tuesday for Emmaus with a game against Parkland at Coca-Cola Park. See next week’s Press for results.
