Egypt-based historical reenactor Gary R. Weaver shared the stories behind various guns of the 1800s during an April 18 open house at the Governor Wolf Historical Society, 6600 Jacksonville Road, Bath.
An expert on historic weapons, Weaver spoke about the Brown Bess issued to British soldiers during the American Revolution, along with a pistol and a couple of the imported rifles issued to soldiers on both sides of the American Civil War. His talk also highlighted equipment centered around replica firearms from his collection, including leather cartridge boxes, percussion cap boxes and ammunition.
Weaver mentioned he will also be participating in the upcoming Camp Geiger reenactment and encampment in Whitehall Parkway. It will be open to the public 9 a.m.-7 p.m. April 25 and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. April 26 at 4689 S. Church St., Whitehall.
This Governor Wolf Historical Society event and the upcoming Camp Geiger event are just a few of many family-friendly historical events happening across the region listed on the Lehigh Valley Passport to History website, a partnership of historic sites and resources in and around Pennsylvania’s Lehigh and Northampton counties and beyond.
