The Salisbury Township Police Department hosted its first annual Youth Law Enforcement Academy. The academy is designed for Salisbury Township School District students in fifth and sixth grades and features a wide range of law enforcement related curriculum. The program was developed and led by Officer Richard Nothstein of the Salisbury Township Police Department. The first week of instruction ran July 6 through July 10, and the second week began July 13 and concluded July 17.

Highlighted curriculum included:

• Physical fitness

• Presentation on the history of the Salisbury Township Police Department

• Tour of police headquarters and patrol vehicles

• Crime scene investigations

• Taser demonstration

• Basic patrol tactics

• St. Luke’s ambulance demonstration

• Lehigh Valley Hospital’s Medevac landing and demonstration

• Police K-9 demonstration

• Eastern and Western Fire Department demonstrations

• Salisbury Township Police enduro unit demonstration

• Lehigh County Drone Team demonstration

• Lehigh County Emergency Response Team demonstration featuring an armored tactical truck.
