Salem United Church of Christ, 615 Third St., Catasauqua, will hold a flea market and basket raffle 9 a.m.-1 p.m. April 25. The event will feature flea market bargains, a basket raffle and food for sale.

The J4 Committee will hold a basket raffle and bingo April 25 at Catasauqua American Legion Post 215, 330 Second St. Doors open noon, and bingo begins 1 p.m.
T-shirts will also be sold at the event as an additional fundraiser.

North Catasauqua Borough Council will meet 7 p.m. May 4 in the basement-level meeting room at borough hall, 1066 Fourth St., to conduct a public hearing and consider the adoption of an ordinance to ordain and open the portion of Ridge Street, between the border of Northampton Borough and Wyandotte Street in the borough.

The borough zoning hearing board will meet 5:30 p.m. May 5 for a public hearing. The Diocese of Allentown will appear before the board to appeal the denial of a zoning permit for a property at 1001-1003 Second St., containing a cemetery and two structures.
The Diocese seeks to create a two-lot subdivision to separate the cemetery from the portion of the property containing the structures.

St. Mary’s and St. John Fisher Catholic churches will be hosting a six-week evening adult Bible study with Father Tolentino at St. Mary’s Church, 121 Union St., Catasauqua. Classes will be held 7-8:45 p.m. Tuesdays May 5-June 9.

Borough residents should note the voter registration deadline is May 4. Pennsylvanians who are not already registered to vote but wish to participate in the May 19 primary election should be sure to register no later than May 5.
To be eligible to vote in the primary, you must be a citizen of the United States for at least one month before the election; a resident of the election district in which you register to vote for at least 30 days before the primary; and at least 18 years of age on or before the date of the primary.
Under state law, only voters registered as Republicans or Democrats may vote for candidates in the primary election.
Citizens may register to vote by visiting the Northampton County voter registration office.
Voters who prefer to vote by mail-in or absentee ballot have until May 12 to apply for the ballot and until 8 p.m. May 19 to return it.

Catasauqua Garden Club will meet May 6 to learn floral arrangements from Deb Mellish, longtime member and past president. Workshop participants should bring a 2-inch-by-5-inch container and scissors or a cutting utensil. Fresh flowers and filler will be provided.

State Rep. Zach Mako, R-183rd, would like residents to know the LIHEAP Heating Assistance Program registration deadline has been extended to May 8. Residents who struggle with home heating bills can apply for assistance from the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
To qualify, you must meet income requirements, which are set based on your household size.
Residents may apply for LIHEAP online at dhs.pa.gov/COMPASS, by phone at 1-866-857-7095 or by contacting their county assistance office.

The borough will hold an electronics recycling event, for residents only, 4-6 p.m. May 12 at the public works complex, 1460 Main St. Participants are asked to remain in their vehicle.
Cash or checks only are accepted. Have exact change or a check prepared. Checks should be made payable to Responsible Recycling Services or RRS.

The annual North Catasauqua Community Day is planned for 5-8 p.m. May 29 at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St. This is a chance to meet local police officers, see some awesome demonstrations, grab great food and enjoy a day with the community at the park.
Bring your family, friends, appetite and community spirit. The event is hosted by North Catasauqua Police Association.

The Catasauqua and North Catasauqua J4 Committee has been busy planning a patriotic celebration, set for July 4 at Catasauqua Park and Playground, 501 American St. The rain date will be July 5.
The celebration will begin with the annual reading of the Declaration of Independence noon at the George Taylor House, Lehigh and Poplar streets, Catasauqua. The opening ceremony is set for 1 p.m. at the park. The event will include food trucks, music, craft tables, flea market vendors, a dunk tank, a cornhole tournament and children’s games hosted by the YMCA.
This year’s event will also feature a mega Catasauqua High School class reunion, bringing together graduates from every class.
The evening will conclude with a Flirtin’ with the Mob concert 7-9 p.m. and a fireworks display at dusk at the Alumni Field football stadium.
Crafters and flea market vendors are still sought, as well as CHS graduates to help coordinate and plan the mega reunion.

Register your pet’s name, photo and your contact information with the borough office. If your furry friend ever decides to go on an unplanned adventure, this will help the borough to get them home. Pet information will not be shared outside of the police department and borough staff.
