Emmaus Rotary Club celebrates Earth Dat April 25
The 26th annual Used Book Sale will take place at the Emmaus Public Library April 24 -25.
April 24 is the members-only preview night 5:30-7:30 p.m. and you can join at the door. On April 25, the event is open to everyone 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The brown bag blowout will take place 2-3 p.m. and will allow community members to fill a standard grocery bag or tote for a cost. All proceeds benefit the library.
The Emmaus Rotary Club will honor Earth Day 8:30 a.m. to noon Apr. 25 at Emmaus Community Park, 1401 Shimerville Road. Registration will begin 8:30 a.m. as folks prepare to head out and begin beautifying parts of Emmaus 9 a.m. Instructions, along with gloves, high visibility vests, recycling bags and tape will be provided. If you are in possession of your own grip ‘n grab trash grabber, it is highly recommended that you bring it along. Kids with supervision and teens are welcome to attend. Accompanying the event and also in the park, will be free electronics recycling and free document shredding. This service will occur 9 a.m. to noon or until the truck is full. For larger items, such as fridges, computer monitors, TVs, air conditioners, etc., a fee of approximately $25 - $40 will be required (cash or check only).
If you are more interested in exercising your green thumb, come to 152 E. Main St. where Mike Waddell will be at the Remembrance Garden for the spring cleanup 9 a.m. Tasks will primarily include spreading and moving mulch on the flower beds, as well as some brush trimming. Bring gloves and note that coffee and donuts will be provided. There is no need to first head to and register at the community park if assisting in this location and please contact Mike Waddell if you can help him out at 484-274-2089.
Beginning 10 a.m. April 26, the Emmaus Farmers Market will appear weekly in Triangle Park.
In recognition of Star Wars and May 4, the Emmaus Public Library will show “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” 1:30 p.m. May 2. Snacks and drinks will be provided and viewers are encouraged to come in costume.
The Emmaus Rotary Club will be at Rising River Brewing Co. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 3 for a family-friendly “Pollinator House Workshop.” This event will feature a short educational talk about pollinator houses and what they do to help bees and other garden-friendly insects create a healthy, sustainable environment in your own backyard.
All ages are welcome. There is a cost, which includes much of the materials you will need to create your own pollinator house. Families or groups are welcome to paint and fill a single house or purchase multiple houses if you so choose. In the event you attended last year and wish to restock your fill materials, there is a discounted fee required at the door for your refill bag. If you get a friend to sign up for the event this year, you can get your refill bag for free. This workshop and the funds generated will support the Emmaus Rotary Scholarship Foundation, Wilmer Schultz Service Above Self Scholarship to benefit high school seniors in the East Penn School District. The Emmaus Garden Club meets the first Tuesday of each month from March to December at the Bethel Bible Fellowship Church. Located at 418 Elm St., the doors open 11:30 a.m., with refreshments beginning noon. The meeting and program to follow then commence 12:45 p.m. There is a cost for yearly membership.
The Emmaus Historical Society and Museum, 218 Main St., is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The Society’s Museum committee would appreciate any donations of pictures and related items of Emmaus’s Centennials, Jubilees and Anniversaries over the years. On May 9, Emmaus Community Pool memberships for the 2026 season will be on pre-sale 9:30-11:30 a.m. in Emmaus Borough Hall, 28 S. Fourth St., in Emmaus.
The Emmaus Public Library will host a Medical Assistance and HealthChoices information session 6 p.m. May 11. Senior Outreach Coordinator, Gloria Charron, of PA Enrollment Services will be at the library to provide resources, as well as review the enrollment and transfer processes. HealthChoices serves individuals and families approved for MEDICAID in the state of Pennsylvania.
The Emmaus Historical Society is a great organization for those interested in learning about and preserving the history of Emmaus. Now is the time to join or renew your membership. Call the office for any questions or for more information regarding volunteer opportunities. The society will a host its next membership meeting and program 7 p.m. May 20 at St. John’s Lutheran Church Parish Hall, 501 Chestnut St. The program is titled “Pennsylvania German Frakturs” and will be presented by Candace Perry. Programs are free and both members and non-members are welcome to attend.
On May 21, Emmaus residents have the opportunity to meet three live raptors as representatives from Hawk Mountain Global Raptor Conservation will be visiting the Emmaus Public Library to speak about raptor migration, adaptations and identification, as well as some Hawk Mountain history. The event will take place 6:30-7:30 p.m. outside, weather permitting and registration through the library website is required.
The Emmaus Public Library will be closed May 23 and May 25 in honor of Memorial Day. Similarly, the Emmaus Borough offices will be closed May 25.
The Emmaus Historical Society will be host a fundraiser noon until 9 p.m. May 30 with trivia, raffles and entertainment by Woodside Avenue, 5 – 8 p.m. The fundraiser will be at Yergey’s Brewing, 235 Main St.. Also May 30, the borough of Emmaus invites all residents to take part in a yard sale event. No permits are necessary and the entire community is encouraged to partake. The rain date is set for May 31.
Mark your calendars for the Emmaus Rotary Summer Festival 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 6 at the Emmaus Community Park. Details will be available in the coming month.
