STSD to host community night May 5
Spring is in the air, albeit a little colder than expected at times and Mother Nature has been having her fun teasing us with 80º days and below freezing temperatures at night. Rest assured we will be moaning about the heat and humidity in no time so let’s just enjoy all that spring has to offer as we plant our gardens, play in our township parks, go for walks and reacquaint ourselves with our neighbors after a long cold winter.
In Salisbury Township School District news, it is important to note that it will soon be time for Pennsylvania System of School Assessments. There are plenty of events to take part in throughout the community starting with Emmaus Public Library Used Book Sale at the library, 11 E. Main St., Emmaus. This popular event begins with a “friends only” preview night 5:30-7:30 p.m. April 24. The doors are open for a public sale 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 25 with a brown bag blow out sale 2-3 p.m. The library will be stocked with books, puzzles and CDs.
Did you know the library has free Burpee vegetable and flower seeds. Oh the possibilities! You can get the whole family involved by starting with a few pots or small garden patch in the yard. While you are at the library, take out a few books about gardening for yourself or a child in your life. There are loads of cookbooks available as well to help you make the best use of your garden bounty. If you have extra vegetables you can give back to the community by donating the extras to the Plant a Row LV which makes regular pickups right at the library entrance and distributes them to those in need. There is so much to discover at the library!
The Salisbury Police Department is teaming up with the Emmaus Police Department for a morning of fun during the “Fish with a Cop” program. The event will take place 8-11 a.m. April 25 at Furnace Dam, 451 S. 10th St., Emmaus. You can bring your own pole or get there early as free finishing pole sets will be given to the first 40 youth (under 18) who arrive at the event. Breakfast, snacks and drinks will be provided and no fishing license is required. For questions about this event go to police@emmauspd.org.
In celebration of Earth Day the Wildlands Conservancy is hosting a Bloodroot Trail challenge 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 25 at South Mountain Preserve, 554 Alpine St., Emmaus. The event features a challenging 7-mile route open to bikers, hikers or runners. Along the way you may even spot a delicate bloodroot flower in bloom. I leave you with a quote about spring in Pennsylvania that we can all relate to.
