Parkland boys volleyball bounces back with wins

The Parkland High School boys volleyball team dropped its first Eastern Pennsylvania Conference match of the season at home to Whitehall last Tuesday, April 9, as it was in five sets. But the Trojans responded with victories in straight sets in their next two conference matches and then also won three of five matches at the Koller Classic at Central York High School last Saturday.

Parkland responded to their loss to Whitehall earlier this week with a convincing straight set victory (25-15, 25-12, 25-10) over host Easton on Thursday night.

Luke Smith reached double figures in kills, ending with 11 and adding two digs. Owen Rodgers tallied seven kills, one block and one dig. Nick Bauer recorded two kills and seven digs. Kumayl Soonasra finished with six assists and 11 digs. Will Stiles contributed 24 assists. Colby Brisendine had three kills, three assists and two aces. Logan Nassry notched four kills and three blocks.

In another stacked with talent Koller Classic, featuring seven of the top 10 AAA teams and the No. 2-ranked Class 2A team in the state, Parkland finished pool play 6-2 before falling to rival Emmaus (30-32) in the first round of playoffs. In pool play, the Trojans downed Montour (25-15, 25-11), Cedar Crest (25-19, 25-14), and Manheim Central (25-22, 25-13) but dropped both sets to Red Lion (17-25, 18-25).

Parkland then had another straight set win over the Cardinals on Monday night by scores of 25-9, 25-7, 25-21.

Bauer led the attack with eight kills and had eight digs. Smith tallied six kills and two digs. Rodgers added five kills. Soonasra finished with 12 digs and two assists. Stiles had 30 assists and eight digs.

Parkland, which improved to 7-2 overall and 6-1 in the conference, was at Allen this past Wednesday and is at Pennridge on Friday, the ninth ranked team in the state in AAA. The Trojans are then at Governor Mifflin on Monday night and host Pocono Mountain West the following day.
