Suspicious package prompts business evacuation and road closures

The Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Fogelsville Criminal Investigation Unit is investigating a suspicious package delivered to a business in Lower Macungie Township March 25.

In a news release, authorities detailed the incident as follows:

At approximately 1:12 p.m. March 25, troopers from the Fogelsville station were called to transportation firm Ryder Logistics, 8620 Congdon Hill Drive, for a package delivered through the mail room appearing suspicious.

When the package was opened there was another package with writing and threats on the package and the package was taken outside.

All employees of the business were evacuated with the assistance of management and state police.

Upon further investigation, it was determined the suspicious package did not pose a threat.

Spring Creek Road was closed at State Route 100 until approximately 4 p.m.

Congdon Hill Drive remained closed at the time of the news release.

The Fogelsville Criminal Investigation Unit, Hazardous Device Explosive Section, State Police K-9 Unit, Troop M Forensic Services Unit, Fogelsville Patrol Unit, Allentown Bomb Squad, Lower Macungie Township Fire Department, Lehigh University K-9 and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are among investigating agencies.
