Earth Day community cleanup April 20

The Borough of Emmaus and Upper Milford Township Joint Environmental Advisory Council will have a community cleanup to celebrate Earth Day 8:30 a.m. to noon April 20. Community members from Emmaus, Upper Milford or any local area may participate in this rain-or-shine event. Participants will clean up litter and any other debris from locations in the borough and Upper Milford. Meet at Emmaus Community Park at Shimerville Road and South 14th Street. Contact info@uppermilford.net or 610-966-3223 if you need gloves, bags or safety vests. During this time, you may also recycle electronics, including televisions, computers, printers, air conditioners or batteries or shred documents 9-11 a.m. (or earlier if the truck exceeds storage space).

Lower Lehigh AARP will meet noon April 4 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Park Hall. June 6 picnic tickets will be available. For more information, call Dot at 610-967-3284.

The Emmaus Historical Society and Museum, 218 Main St., will be closed until further notice, due to renovations. Call the office at 610-966-6591 to schedule a time to drop off any memorabilia.

The historical society’s next program and membership meeting will be 7 p.m. April 17 at St. John’s Lutheran Church Parish Hall, 501 Chestnut St. The program, presented by Jim Schwar, is titled ”The History of Jefferson School, Part 1.” Programs are free and members and nonmembers are welcome to attend.

The Friends of the Emmaus Public Library will hold its 24th annual spring used book sale April 19-20. Their friends-only preview night, 6-8 p.m. April 19 will offer the best selection. Any nonmembers may join the group at the door. The public sale will occur 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 20, but close between 1:45 and 2 p.m. for brown bag blowout setup. During the brown bag blowout sale, 2-3 p.m., shoppers may fill a brown paper or recyclable grocery bag with books for one price. Participants may buy their books with cash or checks made out to: Friends of Emmaus Public Library.

Come celebrate National Library Week April 7-13, especially through a mini-library take home kit. The kits provide tiny books, wallpaper, shelves and decorating materials. Only glue and scissors are required to build your mini-library. The library encourages families to leave your creation on display at the library through April. Each family may only create one mini-library, so RSVP for yours today by calling 610-965-9284, emailing eplcollection@cliu.org or stopping by the front desk.

The Lehigh Valley Humane Society will host a Garden Party 2-5 p.m. May 19. Come to Domaine Pterion Vineyard and Winery, 6501 St. Peters Road, Macungie, to enjoy a fancy afternoon of live music, a silent auction, wine, cocktails, refreshments and hors d’oeuvres. There is a cost and guests should RSVP by April 15. All proceeds will aid the organization and all the animals they rescue. The Emmaus Farmers Market will have its next winter market 10 a.m. to noon April 11. The market will commence its regular season in May, with markets 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Sunday. Go to emmausmarket.com or follow their Facebook page for updates about vendors and special events.

The Emmaus Recreation and Entertainment Commission recently released its 2024 Emmaus Summer Entertainment Series information. Once again, the commission will sponsor Tunes in the Triangle 6:30-8:30 p.m. on select summer Fridays.

Emmaus Borough offices will close March 29 in observance of Good Friday.

Come support the Emmaus Lioness Lions Club at its 26th annual creative basket party at St. John’s UCC, 139 N. Fourth St., Emmaus. This two-day walk through event will run 4-7 p.m. April 19 and 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 20. Along with baskets, this event will include a lottery ticket wreath raffle, bake sale and 50/50 drawing. There is a cost for tickets; additional tickets include 25 gaming chances. Anyone who donates an unexpired canned good will also earn an extra ticket for a chance to win. The winners will be announced April 20.
