Conditional use hearing for Mill Creek Apartments postponed

The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners held its regularly scheduled meeting March 7. There was to be a conditional use hearing for the application of Jason Danweber for Mill Creek Apartments, 6300 Lower Macungie Road; however, it was continued due to some possibility of conflict of interest over retaining Eastburn and Gray as special counsel to the township over the opposition of the Danweber conditional use applications. The new date for the hearing is April 4.

There was a hearing for an intermunicipal transfer of a liquor license to 6776 Hamilton Blvd., Unit 1, Allentown. This will allow for a neighborhood restaurant and bar.

Neighboring residents are not happy with this due to lighting issues and potential noise. A decision will be made by the next meeting.

Resolution 2024-10 was approved which allows for the sale of personal property. Items such as a dump truck, a pickup truck, string trimmers, cellphones and a cash register are among some of the items for sale.

Resolution 2024-11 was approved which allows for destruction of public records such as payroll records, playground and pool registrations, facility rentals, petty cash deposits and contractor leases with dates 2017 and older.

Resolution 2024-12 was approved for adopting initiatives to be recognized as an Audubon Bird Town.

Emmaus High School requested use of the Spring Creek Estates Park for middle school club lacrosse. The commissioners approved this and suggested the school work with the other groups on scheduling.

Resolution 2024-15 was approved for the Spring Ridge Crossing Playground. The amount needed to complete this project is $468,966.

There was discussion about the ongoing flooding in the township. The township cannot clean out the streams and creeks. There is ongoing research over this issue. To make a major impact on the problem, a very large amount of money would be needed. Commissioners President Brian Higgins addressed these concerns.

There was an executive session held Feb. 15 over potential litigation. Another executive session after this meeting was held over legal matters.

The next meeting of the Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners will be held 6 p.m. March 21 in the municipal building, 3400 Brookside Road, Macungie
