‘Queen Bees and Wannabes’

“Queen Bees and Wannabes” buzz to the Whitehall High School stage with “Mean Girls: High School Edition.” Show times are 7 p.m. March 21, 22 and 23 and 2 p.m. March 24 in the WHS auditorium, 3800 Mechanicsville Road.

Director Cara Craft joined with choreographer Missy Zimmer and assistant directors Elaine Ramirez and Kendra Saunders to bring the show to life.

With book by Tina Fey, lyrics by Nell Benjamin and music by Jeff Richmond, the musical is based on the 2004 Mark Waters’ film of the same title written by Fey and based on the 2002 book “Queen Bees and Wannabes” by Rosalind Wiseman.

This comedic take on the social dynamics of high school cliques centers around home-schooled teenager Cady Heron and her experience upon transferring to a public school.

The musical opened on Broadway in 2018 and received 12 Tony Award nominations.

Songs include “It Roars,” “Meet the Plastics,” “Rather Be Me,” “Where Do You Belong?” and “I See Stars.”
