CHARTER ARTS: “The Mystery of Edwin Drood”

“The Mystery of Edwin Drood” brings a Dickens of a whodunit to the stage, 7 p.m. March 20, 21, 22, 23; 2 p.m. March 23, 24, Black Box Theater, Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts, 321 E. Third St., Bethlehem.

Director Kelly Minner-Bickert is assisted by Music Director Erica Dickson, Choreographer Jennifer Weaver, Pit Conductor Aaron Patterson and Costume Designer Amy Handkamer.

Based on an unfinished novel of the same name by Charles Dickens, the charming Edwin Drood has been mysteriously murdered. The audience is invited to solve the crime. Dickens died before revealing the culprit.

With music, lyrics and book by Rupert Holmes, the musical comedy premiered on Broadway in 1985, scoring five Tony Awards out of 11 Tony nominations.

The 2012 Broadway revival received five Tony nominations.

Musical numbers include “There You Are,” “No Good Can Come From Bad,” “Off to the Races” and “The Writing on the Wall.”

The Charter Arts production is not in the Freddys program.
