Roughies: CHS’ Jevon White headed to DECA international conference

Almost a dozen Lehigh Career & Technical Institute students are headed to the next level of competition thanks to their incredible performances during the Pennsylvania DECA state career development conference, held Feb. 20-23 in Hershey.

Eleven students from six Lehigh County high schools scored high enough in their events to secure spots at DECA’s international conference, which is scheduled for April 27-30 in Anaheim, Calif.

Congratulations to Catasauqua High School student Jevon White, marketing and entrepreneurship, who secured a spot at the international conference by earning a gold medal in his human resources management event.

Are you a current CHS student? Would you like to work with your friends this summer? Would you like to work for Catasauqua Area School District? If you answered yes to these three questions, then you might be interested in a job working for the buildings and grounds department. CASD is looking to hire CHS students to work five hours a day, four days per week.

Application packets are available in the CHS main office, and they, along with your resume, are due March 15. Interviews will be held during school hours the week of March 25.

Reminder: March 15 is the last day you can take advantage of the early-bird discounted price of only $65 per ticket for CHS’s prom, themed “Catasauqua Masquerade.” After this date, the cost of a ticket will be $70.

Cash or checks will be accepted. Checks should be made payable to “CHS” with “Class of 2025” appearing in the memo line.

Prom tickets can be purchased after school in rooms C110 or C226.

LCTI recently announced it was extending the 2023-24 school year because the snow days have outnumbered the extra days built into the calendar this winter. As a result of the school year being extended, LCTI has decided to cancel Camp LCTI for 2024.

Fortunately, though, one of its education partners, Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21, is offering two STEM-focused day camps for kids this summer.

• Tech Titans: Summer Spy Camp is set for 8-11:30 a.m. July 16, 17 and 18

• Young Stemologist Academy will be held 8-11:30 a.m. July 23, 24 and 25

Both camps will be held at CLIU Central Office, 4210 Independence Drive, Schnecksville.

For more information on the camps, visit lcti.org/camp-lcti-2024-canceled.
