Allen/East Allen townships: Traffic limited on bridge

The Howertown Road Bridge, north of Route 329, will be limited to northbound traffic only for an extended period of time to facilitate the long-awaited replacement of the bridge over the Dry Run Creek, which started March 11.

The purpose of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation project is to replace the structurally deficient bridge with a precast concrete box culvert.

St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Seemsville, 814 Valley View Road, will be holding a cash bingo April 14.

Doors open 11:30 a.m., and bingo starts 1 p.m. A brown bag lunch is included.

Lappawinzo Fish and Game Association, 25 Lappawinzo Road, Allen Township, will not hold a breakfast in March.

The next breakfast will be held April 21. It is open to members and their guests.

Also, the members’ fishing contest weekend will be April 21.

The Allen Township dog park is closed through the end of April.

The temporary closure will limit paw and foot traffic to allow proper regeneration of healthy turf grass. With all the rain, frost, freezing and thaw cycles, the area is muddy and slippery.

East Allen Township Parks and Recreation is accepting applications for its summer camp program until June 10, with a maximum of 150 children accepted for ages 6-12.

Camp is scheduled for 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Mondays through Fridays from June 17 to Aug. 2. There is a cost, which is discounted for residents.

Walk This Way to Better Health, sponsored by East Allen Township Parks and Recreation and American Heart Association, will hold walks 9-10 a.m. Mondays through Fridays at Bicentennial Park West, 5351 Park West Lane.

This is for all levels of walkers, including beginners, mall walkers, seniors, singles, couples, co-workers, neighborhood newcomers and people with certain conditions, such as heart disease or diabetes.

If interested, call Frantz to be put on the walking club list.

Allen Township Parks and Recreation Board is seeking volunteers to assist with future community events at Kreidersville Covered Bridge Park and Howertown Park. The board is interested in holding events for the community such as movie nights, food truck events, first responder day, yoga classes, holiday-themed events, art classes and more.

If you are 16 or older, you can learn about the role of a firefighter by visiting East Allen Township Volunteer Fire Department, 5354 Nor-Bath Blvd.

If you decide to join, the department will provide orientation, training, personal protective equipment, radio pager, etc. You will have unique opportunities to see things the average person only sees on the news and to help your community in a unique way.

If you are interested in helping but don’t want to fight fires, there are other opportunities such as fire police, administrative or auxiliary member.
