PHS girls stay perfect in EPC

With the turn of a new calendar year, the action became jam-packed as the Parkland High School girls basketball team had a busy three-game week last week. The Trojans won two out of three, dropping the opening game of 2024 in nonconference action, but bounced back to take the next two games in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference competition and kept their undefeated conference mark intact.

Last Wednesday, Parkland lost in overtime to Wilson West Lawn 46-41. The next night, the Trojans bounced back to defeat East Stroudsburg South 43-7, both games were at home. Then, this past Tuesday night, Parkland went on the road and took down rival Emmaus, 48-30.

Against the Bulldogs, Parkland (12-1 overall; 8-0 EPC) led throughout most of the way, holding leads of 12-6 after the first quarter, 23-18 at halftime and 27-24 following the third. But Wilson climbed all the way back to tie the game in the fourth and send it into overtime, where they outscored the Trojans 13-8 to take the game. Madi Siggins paced the offense with 19 points and was the only player in double figures. Lauren Ervin was just short with eight.

Parkland made quick work of ES South, outscoring them 18-0 in the first frame and then taking a 32-1 lead at halftime. It was never close. Talia Zurinskas tallied 19 points with four 3-pointers and Siggins added 16.

In the win over the Green Hornets, the Trojans jumped out in front 15-7 after the opening quarter and then led by double figures (26-13) at halftime and never allowed Emmaus to get to within striking distance the rest of the way. Siggins had a game-high 21 points and both Zurinskas and Delaney Chilcote contributed 11 points.

The win over the Cavaliers clinched a district playoff spot for the Trojans. Parkland has two conference games this week as it is at Pleasant Valley on Friday and then hosts Easton on Tuesday.
