Tiger grapplers fall to Lehighton, Saucon Valley

The Northwestern wrestling team dropped its third straight match last week with a 45-27 set back to Lehighton two days after falling to Colonial League foe Saucon Valley 58-18.

After winning their first two dual meets, the Tigers headed into the holiday break at 2-3 overall and 1-2 in league matches.

The Tigers won five of 11 contested bouts against Lehighton (4-1) while giving up two forfeits to the Tribe. Four of those wins came by fall.

Kenny Kerekes (127), Trent Croll (133), Nathan Geiger (172), Luke Fugazzotto (189) all won their bouts by fall, while Noah Schlofer (215) won his match by decision.

Lehighton registered four pins to help gain a 45-27 nonleague victory over Northwestern.

In the loss to Saucon Valley, The Tigers won just two contested bouts and three matches overall.

William Turner (139) and Luke Fugazzotto (189) won by pinning their Panther opponents, while Noah Schlofer (215) picked up a victory by forfeit.

The Panthers (3-0) won five bouts by fall, four by forfeit and one by major decision.

The Tigers will compete in the Bethlehem Holiday Classic Thursday and Friday at Liberty High School before returning to league competition next week when they host Bangor on Jan. 3 then head to the Parkland duals on Saturday, Jan. 6.
