The Lehigh Valley has a new rescue adoption agency for cats and kittens.

Feline Good Cat Rescue, incorporated in April 2023, filed for its 501(c)3 immediately, which was granted in early May, said Jen Weaver of Breinigsville.

“I and five members of the board of directors have extensive cat rescue experience,” she stated. “We were volunteering for another organization when we decided that starting a new rescue was the best way to help the cats of Lehigh County.

“The six of us worked well together, each with our own strengths, and we all shared the same vision.

“Our values are simple: the cats come first, always.”

Weaver said currently they are foster based with all of the cats in residential homes.

“Our goal is to acquire a building so that we can better serve the cats and the community,” she said. “We currently have a Capital Fundraising Campaign in place, and when we raise enough, we will purchase a property.“

Weaver spoke with The Press about how she is addressing zoning issues.

“We have already reached out to the local zoning officers for Lower Macungie and Upper Macungie townships, our target areas, about what laws and ordinances we would have to follow,” Weaver explained.

“Since cat rescues are generally not in any zoning ordinance, likely we will need to file for variances or exceptions before we decide on a property.

“The zoning laws talk about dog kennels, but a cat shelter is run differently, as cats don’t go outside.

“We are looking for commercial property, more like a home set up, where we will have several free roaming rooms.

“We don’t put our cats in cages.”

Weaver said she works full time and does the rescue work on nights and weekends.

“One of our board of directors is retired, and usually handles the vet visits during the day,” she explained. “Everyone else works full time and does rescues in their spare time.

“Our rescue is 100 percent volunteer and 100 percent donation funded.

“We do not draw paychecks, and we do not receive third-party funding.

“We also have an amazing group of volunteers, some retired, some working, but all following the same mission of rescuing and adopting out cats.”
