Salisbury beats Catty in CL season-opener

After a season-opening win over Oley Valley, the Salisbury boys basketball team continues to roll and has upped its record to 3-0 on the season – 1-0 in the Colonial League - with wins over Catasauqua and Kutztown.

In a 53-41 overtime win against Catasauqua (1-2 Colonial League, 1-3 Overall), the Falcons had two scorers in double digits with two others knocking on the door. Drew Petrie led the team with 18 points and hit on seven of eight foul shots, including going five-of-six in overtime to help put away the win. Steven Lozada also hit in double digits with 10 points in the game. Jake Zellin finished with nine points, hitting three three-pointers, and Jack Foley ended the game with eight. As a team, Salisbury had seven three-pointers in the win.

Frankie Pujols scored a game-high 20 points for Catasauqua.

Salisbury then returned to its nonleague schedule with the Falcons first home game of the season against Kutztown (1-1) and picked up a 52-44 win. The three-point and foul shooting were again keys for the Falcons as they hit on six three-pointers, including two more from Zellin, and went 10-for-17 from the line with Petrie draining six of his nine shots.

Against Kutztown, Zellin was the leading scorer, with 14 points in the game, while Petrie hit for 11 points.

The upcoming schedule has Salisbury hosting Palmerton (2-0, 2-1) before games at Southern Lehigh (0-1, 0-2) and Moravian Academy (2-2, 2-3) over the next week.
