EHS boys start 4-1

Emmaus took on three of its neighbors to the north recently and secured wins against all three opponents, downing East Stroudsburg North (129-18), Pocono Mountain East (127-41), and (111-57) Stroudsburg.

Emmaus opened by sweeping the top three spots in the 200-yard medley relay with the team of Andersen Borst, Parker Gamler, Julian Vlaeminck, and Logan Hartman grabbing the top spot 9.5 seconds ahead of the second-place team. The third-place team was swimming as an exhibition and did not count in the standings, giving third place to Stroudsburg.

In the other relay events, the Hornets also had a good showing. Hartman, Vlaeminck, Carter Smith, and Robbie Barnes made up the 200-yard freestyle relay team and took first by a full five seconds over the team of Gamler, Will Reichart, Ridley Hartman, and Joe Lyons with Stroudsburg taking third.

The Mountaineers cut in front of Emmaus to take second in the 400-yard freestyle relay but were unable to stop Emmaus from taking the top spot. Borst, Vlaeminck, Evan Walker, and Aaron Kenny grabbed the top spot in that event with Emmaus taking third.

In the individual events, sophomores ruled the meet with a couple freshmen also with strong finishes. Among the sophomores, Borst had a big day when he took the top spot in both the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard freestyle event. Peters took second place finishes in both the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle. The sophomore brigade continued to do well with Lyons taking the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly and Reichart winning the 500-yard freestyle.

Emmaus swept the top three spots in the 100-yard backstroke with freshman Brennan Smith taking the top spot, sophomore Kenny taking second and Walker finishing third.

A diving competition was not held in the meet.

The wins give Emmaus a 3-0 mark in the EPC and a 5-1 record overall after opening the season in State College in a quad invite against North Allegheny, Mercersburg, and State College high schools.

Emmaus has a home meet against Allentown Central Catholic this week before they get ready for their annual rivalry meet against Parkland on December 21 at Parkland.
