Teen killed in two-vehicle crash near Emmaus High School

A teen was fatally injured in a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of North Street and Cedar Crest Boulevard in Emmaus Oct. 31, according to news releases from the Emmaus Police Department and the office of the Lehigh County Coroner.

Edwin Cortes, 16, was identified by the coroner’s office as the person who was fatally injured. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.

The cause of death was determined to be blunt force injuries of the torso and the manner of death was ruled an accident, according to the coroner’s office.

Cortes was described as a back seat passenger.

According to Emmaus police, there were other injuries in the crash.

In details provided in the police department’s news release, officers were dispatched to the scene at 2:22 p.m. for a crash involving two vehicles. One of the vehicles “was occupied only by a driver and the other vehicle had four occupants who were current and former students of Emmaus High School.”

As of Nov. 1, the accident remained under investigation by the Emmaus Police Department, Lehigh County District Attorney’s office and the Lehigh County Accident Reconstruction Team.
