Vincenza’s donates giant hoagie for charity

On Oct. 8 a 100 foot hoagie was sold for $5 a piece to raise money for Our Lady of Perpetual Help’s Si. Vincent DePaul Society.

Vincenza Pizzeria & Trattoria owners Angelo Conigliaro and Vincenza Gallina, parishioners at OLPH, donated the hoagie. Supporters had their choice from among Italian, roasted beef, turkey and no meat options as car after car pulled in the small parking lot past a series of tents covering the long sub to make their purchases.

Conigliaro estimated that it took 140 pounds of meat and 40 pounds of cheese along with all of the other hoagie fixings. Vincenza’s employee Chuck Falteich helped coordinate the effort. When the final tally was in $2,399.35 was collected for the Society.

The St. Vincent DePaul Society provides financial assistance to address temporary needs and provides referrals to other sources of aid. Clientele facing temporary unemployment, abuse, other difficult times in their lives, or temporary interruptions in government programs are eligible upon review by the Society. The program is designed to be a “hand up and not a handout.”
