Smarch competes in postseason

Salisbury senior Ava Smarch competed in last week’s District 11 Golf Championships.

Smarch, who also plays soccer during the fall season, shot 115 to finish 11th in last week’s championships, which were held at the Steel Club in Hellertown.

Smarch made the district championship field by shooting 108 a week earlier at the District 11 Championship qualifying tournament at Olde Homestead.

This year’s district championships saw three of the four individual winners take the title by four strokes or more, including a 13-shot margin in girls Class 2A.

Pocono Mountain East’s Evan Murphy won this year’s District 11 Class 3A boys title, shooting even-par 72 and finishing with a comfortable five-stroke margin over Hunter Probst (Stroudsburg) and Zachary Miller (Nazareth), who tied for second.

Southern Lehigh, which had four players finish in the top 10, took the team title last Tuesday with Nazareth finishing second. Nazareth’s Allie Tarreto won the 3A girls title with an 85, one shot better than Northampton’s Camryn Hoff.

In Class 2A, Panther Valley’s Drew Kokinda shot 79 to finish four strokes ahead of Moravian Academy’s Collin Schreiber for the title. Schreiber and the Lions won the team title with Northwestern Lehigh second. Moravian Academy’s Mara Dubacher won the girls 2A title with a 78. She finished 13 shots ahead of Marla Freiwald (Blue Mountain).
