LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

BAVTS News By Jada Wackley

The last days of school are coming around the corner and BAVTS students are eager for summer. The sun is out, and the kids don’t want to stay inside. On May 10, BAVTS SkillsUSA and HOSA hosted a carnival, and everyone had a blast. There was a three-legged race, photo booth, karaoke, toilet bowl basketball, football, egg drop and tire toss all put on by different shops. Culinary and baking made ice cream, sno-cones, hot dogs, hamburgers, and cotton candy. The carnival was a great way to bring everyone together one last time before summer break.

The carnival wasn’t all for fun, though. It was a fun way to raise money for HOSA competitors that are competing at a national level in Dallas, Texas this July. It was also a fundraiser for SkillsUSA competitions next year, so everyone could experience the joy of competing and showing off their skills.

Senior Recognition Night was held at Liberty HS June 6. BAVTS will be celebrating the seniors that are saying goodbye to school, and hello to the workforce.

On May 17, a Co- Op breakfast was held to recognize the students who took the step from school to career. Students spend half the day at their sending schools and the other half in the workforce to get more experience. The event hosted 136 students from Freedom, Liberty, Northampton, Notre Dame and Saucon Valley. State Rep. Zach Mako gave an inspiring speech about the value of a skilled workforce. Cooperative education is considered a “capping off” of a program. Students are recommended by their instructors to participate in the Co-Op program. Co-Op provides students with the opportunity to polish their skills that were learned in the classroom, but also learn new skills that aren’t available in a classroom.
