Moore Township Board of Supervisors to add new position

During the April 4 Moore Township Board of Supervisors meeting, police Chief Gary West reported the police secretary resigned, effective March 17.

It was decided the township would create the role of township secretary that would include the police secretary role and assist the administration.

West also reported there were 381 incidents, with four arrests, in March. Arrests include three for driving under the influence and one for property damage involving a hit-and-run event.

Jason Harhart gave the fire department report for March. There were 30 fire calls, including one fire and three motor vehicle accidents.

Two municipal workers were hired for the public works department.

Street sweeping is ongoing, and seal coating of a number of roads is planned.

Former supervisor and current First Regional Compost Authority liaison Richard Gable reported the recent FRCA Mulch Madness event was a success. He noted, because of the abundance of mulch at the authority, there was another event planned, which was held April 21 and 22.

The board appointed public works Director Craig Hoffman to a seat on the land and environmental protection board.

The historical commission is seeking bids to complete the unfinished work at the historic Edelman Schoolhouse. The commission is planning an open house at the school some time this spring or early summer.

The Edelman Schoolhouse was built around 1859 and is located at 145 Longley Road, Nazareth.

The township recreation commission is planning to expand pickleball at the recreation center. The commission received permission to pursue grant funding for another pickleball court. The board also granted permission for the commission to place pickleball lines on the basketball court at the recreation center.

The board approved ordinance 2023-2, regarding agritourism/agritainment, and resolution 2023-11, which allows the pursuit of a grant from the Northampton County Livable Landscapes Grant application.
