First PickleMania a huge success in Hanover Township

On Saturday, May 20, the Hanover Township Community Center hosted PickleMania. It is the first of many Pickleball tournaments that will be scheduled in Hanover Township. The players had a blast and there ended up being 46 players and 23 teams, nine Intermediate Division teams and 14 Advanced Division teams.

Sponsors for the event were FYI Graphics, which provided each player a T-shirt, and CarePatrol with food and beverage donations.

Pictured at the top are Advanced Division finalists from left: the team of Robert Springer and Jimmy Villani, runners-up, and the team of Tom Kelly and Regina Gangemi, champions.

Pictured above are Intermediate Division finalists from left: the team of Sharon Hachtman and Irene Talerico, champions, and the team of Jack McCallum and Donna Schlegel, runners-up.

There was a great mix of players. Villani is a former NFL player and Liberty star. McCallum is a Hall of Fame sportswriter for Sports Illustrated. Also playing in the tournament was former Freedom principal Roger Washburn. Former Freedom wrestling coach Dante Terenzio, who is now the recreation director in Hanover Township, also played as a substitute.

More tournaments are being planned for the future.
