District News: NASD schools are closed April 6-10

Spring break is almost here! Schools will be closed April 6-10.

The Northampton Area School District strings showcase concert is scheduled for 7-8:30 p.m. April 14 in the Northampton Area High School auditorium.

An opioid documentary viewing will be held 6-8 p.m. April 24 in the Northampton Area Middle School library.

The Northampton County District Attorney’s Office in partnership with the Easton Opioid Awareness Task Force, produced a film on the impact of opioids and fentanyl usage in the Lehigh Valley.

A mock teen bedroom will be set up for adults 6 p.m. April 24 in the NAMS cafeteria. This is a hands-on opportunity to learn how to identify drug paraphernalia and the ways drugs and drug use can be disguised. Learn of current local drug trends and ways to talk to children about drugs and alcohol.

There will be resources available to learn about ways and where to find help.

Registration is still open for the spring 2023 NASD community education program. Classes are open to residents and nonresidents.

Adult yoga will be 6:30-7:30 p.m. April 11, 18 and 25. Prices are $30 or $10 drop-in in the Siegfried Elementary School multipurpose room. Park in the back of the school by the softball field and flagpole. Enter at the ramp.

Doors open 6:15 p.m.

Water aerobics started April 3. There is no class April 6. After that, classes will be every Tuesday and Thursday at the NAMS pool - April 11, 13, 18, 20, 25 and 27 and May 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18 and 23.

Doors open 7:10 p.m. Classes begin 7:35 p.m.

Zumba session two starts April 12 and continues April 19 and 26 and May 3 and 12. It is held 6:30-7:30 p.m. Sign up at nasdschools.org/page/community-ed.

Northampton Area School District’s 2023-24 kindergarten and first grade online registration began Jan. 12.

To register your child online, visit the district website at nasdschools.org, click on the Enroll Now button to the right, click the 2023-2024 Kindergarten Registration link and follow the directions.

Admission to kindergarten requires a child be five years old on or before Sept. 1.

Admission to first grade requires a child be six years old on or before Sept. 1.

Children currently enrolled in kindergarten in the Northampton Area School District do not need to register for first grade.

There are health requirements to register. Immunization records must show the following: four doses of tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis (one dose on or after the fourth birthday); four doses of polio (fourth dose on or after the fourth birthday and at least six months after previous dose given); two doses of measles, mumps, rubella (usually given as MMR); three doses of hepatitis B; and two doses of varicella (chickenpox) or evidence of immunity.

Physical and dental examinations are also required for entrance into kindergarten and may be completed up to one year before entrance into kindergarten.

The dental form and physical form for these exams are available on the district website.

There are other requirements to enroll. Upload to the online application two proofs of current residency, which can be a copy of a mortgage, lease or rental agreement; a utility bill; Pennsylvania Department of Transportation identification or driver’s license; Pennsylvania Department of Transportation vehicle registration; copy of state or federal program enrollment; copy of paycheck stub with name and address of employee and employer; residency affidavit, as well as the original birth certificate for child and custody papers if applicable.
