Firefighters receive alarm training

PRESS PHOTO BY JIM MARSH Firefighter crew members at Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company participate in classroom and hands-on tabletop exercises Feb. 27, reviewing protocols and standard procedures involved in fire company responses to automatic fire alarms in its fire district. About half of the more than 500 emergency dispatches for the fire company last year involved automatic alarms. Firefighters used large satellite photo blowups of both a commercial and a residential structure in their fire district to illustrate the response and approaches to automatic alarm dispatches at those structures using small-gauge models of fire apparatus.
