Commissioners hold two-for-one meeting

Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners met March 6 to hold the regularly scheduled workshop meeting and take care of agenda items from the canceled meeting Feb. 13.

President Joe Marx and Vice President Phil Ginder took time to recognize important township members who died recently, including Phillies baseball star and township native Curt Simmons, attorney Charles Fonzone, dedicated township volunteer Steve Nemeth Jr. and former Commissioner Claire Levanduski.

The commissioners also recognized Sgt. Brian Cuth and Officer Kenneth Stephens, who recently retired. Both officers served the township for more than 30 years.

In other business, the commissioners approved bill 4-2023, raising the mayor’s salary with a 3% annual increase for 2024-27.

Sean Ziller was appointed to a permanent seat on the planning commission, with a term ending Dec. 31, 2026.

Residents visiting the municipal building may have noticed there has been a change in the flow of traffic. Deputy Mayor Jack Meyers said this was done to get people to the front of the building and public parking more quickly.

At the next meeting, the commissioners will vote on the Outback Steakhouse land development plan, pool pass rates and Camp Whitehall rates.

The commissioners will meet 7 p.m. March 13 in the municipal building, 3219 MacArthur Road.
