Hornets down Liberty

The Emmaus High School boys basketball team concluded a successful regular season early last week, finishing with a 14-2 record in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference. The Green Hornets earned the top seed in the conference tournament and are seeking their first league title since 2012.

Emmaus began its quest for a conference championship with a double-digit win, defeating eighth-seeded Liberty 60-39 last Friday night at Emmaus in the EPC quarterfinal round. It was the first victory in the EPC tournament since 2019.

The Hornets went ahead early, taking an 11-5 lead after the opening quarter and were on top by seven, 26-19 at halftime. They outscored the Hurricanes 34-20 the rest of the way to walk off their home court for the last time this season, finishing with an undefeated 11-0 mark at home. It was also the fifth consecutive win for Emmaus.

It was the first and only meeting of the season between the two teams.

Junior Jametric Harris led all scorers with 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Classmate Will Barber tallied 13 points and senior Dylan Darville also finished in double figures with 10 points. Jake Fotta contributed nine points. Chase Muckey added five points.

Emmaus is 19-4 overall, while Liberty fell to 14-9 and will await its matchup in next week’s District 11 6A tournament.

The Green Hornets took on Central Catholic in the semifinals on Tuesday. The winner of Tuesday’s game will play for a league title Thursday at the PPL Center against either Parkland or Pocono Mountain West.
