Emmaus boys seal top seed in EPC

It has been a very successful 2022-23 regular season for the Emmaus High School boys basketball team. The Hornets finished on top of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference following their final regular season finale Monday and will be the top seed in the conference tournament beginning Friday.

Emmaus went 3-0 last week, all three victories against EPC opponents. The Green Hornets took it to Allen last Tuesday night in a 33-point victory. They followed that up 48 hours later and held on for a two-point win against rival Parkland. Emmaus concluded the regular season by getting some revenge against Central Catholic Monday night at home, answering a loss in their previous meeting and finishing 10-0 at home this season. Emmaus won 18 of its last 22 games to end the regular season.

Against the Canaries, the Green Hornets outscored them in every quarter, including 12-6 in the first quarter and 20-7 in the final quarter to win 62-29. In a game that didn’t feature a single made 3-pointer, Emmaus outscored Allen 40-17 in the second half.

Will Barber and Rafael Terrero each finished with 12 points. Jametric Harris had 10 points. Dylan Darville and Jack Csensits recorded eight points each.

The Green Hornets had a quick turnaround in their next game and remained on the road. Emmaus had to complete a fourth-quarter comeback to take down the Trojans on their home court, 47-45, last Thursday night.

The Hornets led after the first and second quarters, but Parkland took a 37-33 lead after three. Emmaus outscored them 14-8 in the final frame to take the game.

Barber had a game-high 24 points and Darville added 11.

Just like against the Trojans, Emmaus led after the first and second quarters against the Vikings and had to withstand a couple of Central rallies to get the victory, 59-49.

Fotta finished with a game-high 15 points and Darville and Chase Muckey netted 12. Teague McCourt and Barber had seven points and Harris contributed six to round out the scoring.

Emmaus finished the regular season 18-4 overall and 14-2 in the EPC. They will host No. 8 seed Liberty on Friday night in the EPC quarterfinal round.
