EHS girls clinch league playoff spot

The Emmaus High School girls basketball team finished its 2022-23 regular season on a high note. In a three-game week, the Green Hornets won twice, and in doing so clinched a spot in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference tournament, which begins Friday night.

Emmaus began the week with a double-digit victory at home over Allen. In a quick turnaround, the Hornets earned a monumental win 48 hours later on Thursday, taking down rival Parkland in the home finale, their first win over the Trojans since 2012. The season finale, however, did not go their way, falling to Central Catholic on the road.

Emmaus led from start to finish against the Canaries, outscoring them 12-7 after the first quarter and then holding them scoreless in the second, while the Hornet scored 20, taking a 32-7 lead at halftime, on their way to a 58-36 win.

Gabby De Vita finished with a game-high 20 points, including four 3-pointers. Taylor Griffith recorded nine points and Paige Inman added eight. Mya Cooper had six points.

Against Parkland, it looked like it was going to be yet another matchup that would be won by the Trojans. They raced out to an early double-digit advantage, leading 19-8 after the opening quarter. Parkland extended its lead to as many as 14 points in the second quarter before Emmaus began to claw back, outscoring the Trojans 48-29 the rest of the way to win 56-48.

Inman finished with a team-high 17 points. Cooper tallied 13 points, while Griffith contributed 11. Sofie Laird added seven points in the victory.

Emmaus then lost to the Vikettes in the season finale, 69-49.

The Hornets finished the regular season with a 13-9 overall record and 10-6 mark in the EPC. They will either be the five or the six seed in league playoffs, which will be a road game on Friday night.
