Allen approves security, public works purchases

Allen Township Board of Supervisors met Jan. 24 to approve purchases for Howertown Park security and the public works building.

Jaindl-Watson donated $5,000 to the township, in addition to what was allocated in the 2023 budget, for upgrades to Howertown Park. The project is estimated to cost $37,500.

Township Manager Ilene Eckhart said there are a few components to the project, such as adding an access control system to the field house, installing cameras and improved Wi-Fi for different access points and security coverage for the entire park.

Supervisors also approved a purchase for storage racking for $8,500. The racks will help keep new public works equipment off the floor.

In other business, supervisors previously discussed improved signage on Radar Drive and Willowbrook Road deterring trucks from turning onto East Bullshead Road.

FedEx and BL Companies approached the township with an idea of their own around that time. A proposal was put together, with a revised drawing including extra signage, and moved forward Jan. 20.

Supervisors were to potentially make a decision on that proposal at the Feb. 14 meeting.

Supervisors will next meet 6 p.m. Feb. 28 in the fire department building, 3530 Howertown Road.
