A Whitehall Township man took his own life Aug. 25 after calling 911 to say he had shot his girlfriend, according to a news release from the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.

According to information released by District Attorney Gavin Holihan, Whitehall Township Police Department received a 911 call around 10:20 p.m. Aug. 25 about a shooting that occurred in an apartment in the 1220 block of Pericles Place. The caller stated he had shot his girlfriend.

When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered that the female had been shot two times. She received lifesaving measures at the scene from first responders and was transported via EMS to a local hospital. The 27-year-old female victim remained hospitalized with critical injuries, according to police, at press time.

Eddie G. Estrada, 34, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio ruled the death a suicide.

Estrada reportedly shot himself after calling 911 and admitting he shot his girlfriend, according to police.

According to Buglio, Estrada was pronounced dead at the scene 10:58 p.m. His autopsy was scheduled for Aug. 27.

No one else was inside the home at the time of the shootings, Holihan said.

The investigation was conducted by Whitehall Township Police Department and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office Homicide Task Force.
